Responding to news that the NHS has announced a deal for sickle cell treatment, CEO of the Race Equality Foundation, Jabeer Butt OBE said:

“This life-changing sickle cell treatment will be a game changer for thousands of people, including those from African Caribbean backgrounds amongst whom sickle cell is much more prevalent. Our research briefing on this topic highlighted the difficulties people face with patchy care across the country, so new treatments must go hand in hand with providing accessible support services for those with the condition and regular screening for at-risk populations.”
