The Race Equality Foundation has co-signed a joint letter calling for an extension to the SEND Reform consultation, currently due to close on 18 May 2026.
Alongside Include Me Too, Black SEN Mamas, South Asian SEN Mamas and other partners, we are raising concerns that the current timeframe does not allow for meaningful engagement from communities most affected – particularly Black, Asian and other racialised disabled children, young people, and their families.
Barriers such as complex consultation materials, accessibility challenges, and limited capacity within community organisations risk excluding important voices from shaping future SEND policy.
An extension would help ensure the consultation is more inclusive, accessible, and reflective of lived experience. We believe this is essential to achieving fair and effective reform.
