To celebrate the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations’ (ACEVO) first Climate Week, our CEO, Jabeer Butt OBE, sat down with Jools Townsend, CEO of Community Rail Network, and Kamran Mallick, CEO of Disability Rights UK. The podcast episode focuses on civil society leaders who, while not primarily focused on climate and the environment, are taking significant steps to support the communities they serve in the face of environmental challenges.
The Race Equality Foundation has been a key partner in the Everyone’s Environment programme—a collaboration of over 70 social and environmental charities. This initiative was established to accelerate action on the social impacts of environmental crises.
In the podcast, Jabeer highlights the critical role of Everyone’s Environment and discusses why it’s vital for a racial equality organisation like ours to be part of the conversation. Although environmental issues are deeply connected to social justice, diverse leaders from Black, Asian, and minoritised ethnic communities have often been absent from leadership roles in this space. It’s essential to elevate their voices and ensure their experiences are centred in these discussions.
As the effects of climate change continue to intensify, we have a duty to advocate for the communities we serve, ensuring they are not disproportionately affected by its worst impacts.
