Insight Infrastructure’s Convening Programme on Ethnicity Data Gaps

The Race Equality Foundation, in collaboration with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), is leading a programme to address gaps in ethnicity-disaggregated data, particularly within health and social care.

In a circular frame, a black nurse talking to a black young women in a hospital waiting area. They look serious.

Despite the availability of ethnicity data, there are extensive issues with the quality, accessibility, and interpretation of this data, limiting its use in informing effective policies and services.

Addressing these issues is essential to improving data-driven decision-making.

To take this forward, this initiative is:

● Conducting a survey, to gather insights on the challenges and needs related to ethnicity data.

● Hosting two online roundtable events where VCSE organisations, academics, and policymakers will discuss barriers, best practices, and potential solutions.

● Developing a publicly accessible online directory – informed by insights from the survey and online events – that connects organisations and individuals working on ethnicity data gaps.

How can you and our organisation, be involved in our work?

We are inviting  researchers, policymakers, voluntary sector organisations and those with expertise or lived experience in this field, to participate by completing the survey, joining a roundtable discussion, or contributing to the directory.

The project launches in early 2025, with findings shared widely to promote ongoing collaboration.

Take part by sharing your experiences of, and the lessons you have learnt, collecting and/or working with ethnicity-disaggregated data through the survey.
