Commenting on the Covid lessons learned report from the HoC Health and Social Care Committee, CEO of the Race Equality Foundation, Jabeer Butt OBE said:

“The pandemic has laid bare shocking inequalities in our society. We need to remember that Covid is far from over, for some communities more than others – recent figures suggest that Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities are still overrepresented in intensive care units.

“Our own Race Equity Collaboratives project investigated the depth of the damage to the lives of Black, Asian & minority ethnic communities in many areas including housing, employment and more. We fully support this report’s recommendation that the Government ensure its levelling up agenda includes policies to reduce health inequalities with a particular focus on these communities. Serious action is now urgent if the Government really wants to fix the failings that have shattered so many lives.”
