The Race Equality Foundation is pleased to announce that Leandra Box has been promoted to Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Programmes at the Race Equality Foundation.

Leandra has worked at the charity for many years, leading the organisation’s Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) parenting programme and managing the SFSC team. 

Jabeer Butt, Race Equality Foundation Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to have Leandra as our new Deputy Chief Executive. Leandra will support me in leading the organisation as we continue to tackle racism and help to transform the lives of Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities in the UK.”

Leandra Box said: “I’m thrilled to take on this new role at the Race Equality Foundation and pleased that my experience and expertise at the charity has been recognised. I’m excited to support Jabeer Butt in leading the charity, directing our programmes and working closely with our Trustees on future planning.”

Leandra has been with the Race Equality Foundation since 1995, when she took up the post of Research Assistant. She worked with Chief Executive Jabeer Butt in the development of the SFSC model and established the programme as a widely used parenting intervention. 

Leandra’s career has been largely within the voluntary sector and has consistently focused on tackling disadvantage and inequality in a variety of roles: as a researcher, a policy lead and a programme lead. 

Leandra led the development and expansion of the nationally recognised SFSC violence prevention parenting intervention and its sister programme for young people, and is an active spokesperson within the parenting sector, being a founder member of the UK Parenting Alliance. 

She has written widely on issues including Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities’ access to family support, the needs of families, workforce training and development, and the role of the Black, Asian and minority ethnic voluntary and community sector. Leandra is also a trustee of People’s Health Trust and Paddington Arts.
