Resolving conflict

Researchers at the university of Texas found that there are four positive ways of moving forward from conflict. (Parsons, J. A., Prager, K. J., et al. 2019, Aug. 8)

  • Take a breath: to calm down and get perspective.
  • Active repair: includes apologising, forgiving, reaching an agreement and affectionate behaviour such as hugging and kissing.
  • The other person’s perspective: seeing any issue from a new perspective will often make people more willing to compromise.
  • Letting go: there are some issues that cannot be solved. It is okay to agree to disagree
