Researchers at the university of Texas found that there are four positive ways of moving forward from conflict. (Parsons, J. A., Prager, K. J., et al. 2019, Aug. 8)
- Take a breath: to calm down and get perspective.
- Active repair: includes apologising, forgiving, reaching an agreement and affectionate behaviour such as hugging and kissing.
- The other person’s perspective: seeing any issue from a new perspective will often make people more willing to compromise.
- Letting go: there are some issues that cannot be solved. It is okay to agree to disagree
