The ENDS Report this week unveiled its latest Power List of the 100 UK environmental
professionals who have made the greatest impact in the past two years.
The publication’s flagship Power List, now in its third year, celebrates the profession’s most
impactful individuals, featuring successful nominees from government departments and
regulators, NGOs, environmental consultancies and law firms, academia, and more.
To feature on the list, an individual must have met at least one of four broad criteria:
- They may have shaped or influenced national or local environmental policy;
- Their actions may have enhanced the reputation of the environmental profession;
- Their work may have resulted in demonstrable and positive environmental improvements
- They may be unsung heroes whose work is delivering positive change without receiving the recognition they deserve
One nominator said that Butt and the organisation are “champions for ensuring the voices of ethnic minority groups are considered within the environmental movement and by social charities.”
Butt is a lead partner in the Everyone’s Environment partnership, a collaboration of more than 40 environmental and social charities and funders working to raise awareness in the wider community of ethnic minority community charities about the importance of taking action and advocating for ethnic minority communities on environmental issues.
In Jabeer’s words:
“Drawing attention to the climate and nature crisis and how it is exacerbating racial inequality has been challenging. It has been made more difficult when the urgency for action is being denied, accompanied by denial of the persistence of racial inequality. Therefore recognition by The Ends Report is welcome. However, that recognition needs to be shared with organisations and colleagues who have provided support, including Caribbean and African Health Network, Wai Yin Society, Friends Families and Travellers, Queens Walking Group and Sheffield Environmental Movement, as well as colleagues at NPC.”
