SUMMARY:Webinar: Annual Health Checks for People with a Learning Disability
DESCRIPTION:Join the Race Equality Foundation and Learning Disability England online on Tuesday 23 July 2024 as we release a co-produced video on Annual Health Checks (AHCs) for people with a learning disability from Black\, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities. \nDate: Tuesday 23 July\, 2024 \nTime: 14:00-15:30 \nPeople with a learning disability from Black\, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds experience significant inequalities in relation to health outcomes. The 2023 We Deserve Better: Ethnic minorities with a learning disability and access to healthcare report\, a collaborative project with Race Equality Foundation\, Learning Disability England and led by University of Central Lancashire\, found shocking disparities in life expectancies for people with a learning disability from Black\, Asian\, and minoritised ethnic backgrounds\, with the average age of death at 34 years. For White counterparts\, the life expectancy is 62 years of age. \nBuilding upon this research\, the Race Equality Foundation and Learning Disability England have been working with people with lived experience from Black\, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities to raise awareness of and improve the uptake of annual health checks. SUMMARY:Advanced Training: Using SFSC to reduce parental conflict
DESCRIPTION:The Advanced Training course provides facilitators with the tools to deliver Strengthening Families\, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) to parents with a greater degree of focus on adult relationships and the impact of conflict with the co-parenting relationship on children. \nIt builds on the SFSC core training course and provides practitioners with the skills and understanding to meet the needs of parents experiencing conflict whether they are living together or living apart. \nAs well as providing a written a fully mapped supplementary manual which addresses parental conflict across the programme. SUMMARY:SFSC Refresher training – London
DESCRIPTION:This 2 day workshop is intended for trained facilitators who’ve had a break before or between delivering the programme to parents. SUMMARY:Supporting parents to tackle extremism and the radicalisation of young people
DESCRIPTION:This one day workshop examines the violence prevention aspects of the SFSC programme and how they can meet the needs of families living in areas affected by radicalisation and extremism and ensure their group parenting work supports parents to tackle extremism and the radicalisation of young people. \nFacilitators will be shown how to use the SFSC curriculum to address issues of extremism and radicalisation\, by linking to the core SFSC aim of promoting healthy violence free communities.  Emphasis will be placed on the role of parents in safeguarding children. \nAll participants will receive detailed guidance notes to supplement the existing curriculum and other resources including additional slides. \nThe workshop aims to:\n\nexplore the evidence on community violence\, including radicalisation\nexplore the impact of violence upon families and relationships\, from both a historical and contemporary perspective\nshare good practice when safeguarding and promoting a violence-free lifestyle\novercome the challenges facilitators may encounter when discussing these issues\nboost facilitator confidence in delivering SFSC\, even when facing opposition from parents\, practitioners or their own values\nwork through the written resource and relevant slides to ensure easy use when delivery programmes\n\nQualifications and experience needed\nThis course is intended for practitioners who have previously completed the five day SFSC training programme. \nFormat of the day\nThis one day course will include presentations of research evidence\, opportunities for individuals to reflect upon possible practical and strategic developments in their own work\, exploration of dedicated written resources. \nBy the end of the workshop participants will be able to:\n\nconfidently support parents when discussing\, addressing and reflecting upon issues relating to radicalisation and violent extremism\nshare evidence around risk and prevention\nwork with parents who may be uncomfortable or confrontational when discussing their experiences of violence and violence prevention\nfeel confident in using the subject specific written resources with the existing curriculum\n\nBenefits of the day\n\nup-to-date\, relevant and evidence-based information\ntaking home a copy of the film and written resource\nexpert trainers\nopportunities for reflection\nmeeting others\, often from different agencies but with shared interests\nusing learning for continuous professional development\n\nThis training will be delivered online. \nCost of Course: £150 \nAPPLY FOR THE COURSE
