Additionally, after receiving a diagnosis of dementia, it is important that people and their families are given information to help them understand the condition. Having early interventions in place can support people to cope with anxiety arising after receiving a diagnosis, and, in some cases, prevent life-changing events (such as a person giving up employment). <\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3afa459 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"3afa459\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8757b0a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8757b0a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In ADAPT workshops discussions, South Asian family carers and people living with dementia suggested that this information should be given face-to-face, with advisers providing tailored support for families. Although leaflets can be useful, the first preference is a conversation:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-67f5930 elementor-blockquote--skin-border elementor-widget elementor-widget-blockquote\" data-id=\"67f5930\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"elementor-blockquote\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-blockquote__content\">\n\t\t\t\tBecause you see,\u00a0it's no good if somebody's been diagnosed and given loads of literature,\u00a0that person is not going to read it.\u00a0Because the diagnosis and the\u00a0thought of having a\u00a0diagnosis of a condition that has got no cure, his\u00a0confidence, his\u00a0concentration\u00a0is well and truly\u00a0gone.\u00a0And he's not going to read the leaflets, he needs a\u00a0face to face,\u00a0or somebody actually sitting in front of me and explaining what it is that\u00a0he\u2019s got and how to\u00a0overcome it. South Asian families suggested that someone culturally sensitive to the needs of the South Asian community is vital. Furthermore, people living with dementia told us that it is also important to have support from other people living with the condition.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-889d2c3\" data-id=\"889d2c3\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f69fa9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9f69fa9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Within the workshops, people expressed different understandings about dementia and its causes. Some felt that it was important to emphasise the biological causes of dementia \u2013 for example, that it is not just old age but results from changes in the brain caused by disease. A community organisation staff member claimed there is still a considerable need to raise dementia awareness among older generations who may think of the condition in other ways than a disease:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-287f8fe elementor-blockquote--skin-border elementor-widget elementor-widget-blockquote\" data-id=\"287f8fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"blockquote.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote class=\"elementor-blockquote\">\n\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-blockquote__content\">\n\t\t\t\tThere was a dementia caf\u00e9 for South Asian communities, but the stigma associated with the condition was a deterrent to people using this service. This can be culturally related to how dementia is perceived \u2013 i.e. as coming from the devil\/black magic \u2013 particularly from the less well educated groups of the population. So perhaps the more informal steps might be more productive in terms of raising awareness and developing services that are appropriate and accessible. Whereas the younger generation are more fluent in English so can access information more easily. \t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/blockquote>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-0ca3918\" data-id=\"0ca3918\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-89a7135 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"89a7135\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In addition to face-to-face support, South Asian families and people living with dementia felt that dementia support programmes are useful for learning about the condition and that people who are not experienced in using computers\/the internet can be supported to learn new skills so that they may undertake dementia programmes to help them learn more about the condition.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a8c7732 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" in the field and completed word for word to ensure that the information is an accurate rendition of the original English version. Healthcare professionals also felt that<b> l<\/b>eaflets and other information only work well with South Asian communities when they are simple and easy to understand.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>On the basis of these workshop findings, we reviewed a number of resources.
